The fifth training module (TM5) of the Inter-oPEn doctoral network was successfully held in two phases: a virtual session on 12 May 2026, followed by an in-person session from 20–21 May 2026 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Coordinated by Prof Ilka Jahn (KTH), the event brought together the doctoral candidates (DCs), an industry expert, and an educational consultant for scientific exchange, professional development, and networking.

The virtual session began with an introductory presentation by Prof Ilka Jahn, followed by a panel discussion featuring Dr Max Görtz from MOSAIC, who shared valuable insights into HVDC technology, and the services provided by the company. This was followed by a presentation from Dr Jagruti Thakur (KTH) on the RECOPS project, an interdisciplinary initiative focused on open-source software in the power sector. The first day concluded with an elevator pitch training session led by Dr Philipp Gramlich (NaturalScience.Careers), aimed
at strengthening the communication and presentation skills of the DCs.

The second phase of TM5 took place in the beautiful city of Copenhagen and opened with an inspiring scientific lecture titled “Power Electronics Technology – Trends and Applications” delivered by Prof Frede Blaabjerg from Aalborg University. Hosted at the Lyngby campus of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the activities were made possible through the hospitality of Anne Schultz Vognsen and Prof Nicolaos A. Cutululis of DTU. A major highlight of the day was the joint poster session involving the Inter-oPEn and the ADOreD DCs, another MSCA doctoral network. During the session, the DCs engaged in productive in-person scientific discussions. The day concluded with a networking dinner.

On the final day of TM5, the Inter-oPEn DCs delivered elevator pitches, presenting their research work. This activity served as a practical evaluation of the communication training conducted during the virtual session. Coordinated by Prof Ilka Jahn and chaired by Dr Philipp Gramlich, the session provided an excellent opportunity for peer feedback and constructive evaluation of presentation techniques. The day also included the election of Ali Sajjadi (RWTH ACS), Gerald Cham Kpu (KTH) and Donia Ayari (RUG) as doctoral researcher representatives to the Supervisory Board.

To conclude the training module, the Inter-oPEn and ADOreD DCs visited the Middelgrunden Offshore Wind Farm. The excursion includedamemorable boat trip from Nordhavn to the wind farm, lasting more than two hours. Despite brief showers during the journey, participants enjoyed favourable weather and a unique opportunity to experience offshore wind infrastructure firsthand. The visit stood out as one of the major highlights of TM5 and reflected the excellent planning and logistics provided by the organising team.
